“Sunway Memories” PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITIONprobably be launched on either 30 or 31 August 2008.


Summary

“Sunway Memories” was born through the inspiration of the many happy faces and memories of visitors to Sunway. This has been very evident from the many pictures that we have seen through online photo albums and social networking sites.

Sunway today, wants to reward these visitors, and let them tell us their story of their experience with Sunway through their photographs. Hence there is no category for professionals or amateurs where this photography competition is concerned.

Let it be a good time, a family moment, a romantic encounter, a reunion, a birthday or purely the amazement of the themed architecture in Sunway Lagoon Resort and Lost World of Tambun, everybody is invited.

Many will also notice an extreme step that the Sunway Group has taken as a responsible corporate citizen in respecting the copyright of all photographers of the world. All copyright of the pictures will remain with the entrants. Only the winners will have to relinquish their rights to the Sunway Group.

So tell us your most memorable moment in your own very way. By the way, all staff of the Sunway Group is invited too.

Rules and Regulations

1. Participation

a) Open to all Malaysians and Foreign Visitors.

b) All staff of Sunway Group and Star Publications are encouraged to participate.

c) Members of the organizing committee and their immediate family members either from Sunway or STAR Publications are not allowed to participate in this competition.

d) All information detailing how to enter this competition forms part of these terms and conditions. It is a condition of entry that all rules are accepted as final and that the competitor agrees to abide by these rules. The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Submission of an entry will be taken to mean acceptance of these terms and conditions.

e) Entries :-

Entries should be submitted to the published postal address. Participants will need to register at www.sunway.com.my/photography/registration.asp after 30 or 31 August 2008.

All entries must be submitted online at a file size no larger than 1MB

All short listed entries must be submitted by hand or by post on a CD-ROM (jpeg or TIFF format only) containing the shortlisted photograph. The size of the image shall be no smaller than 15MB and in 300dpi.

The CD must be labeled with the entrant’s name, entrant’s NRIC / passport number, email address. Entries will not be returned.

f) All entries must be received by the advertised closing time and date.

g) Contestants can send in as many entries as they wish. Late, illegible, incomplete, defaced or corrupt entries will not be accepted. No responsibility can be accepted for lost entries and proof of transmission will not be accepted as proof of receipt. Entries must not be sent through agencies or third parties.

h) In the event of a tie, the winner shall be determined by its date of entry.

i) No digital super imposition/composition is allowed. However, HDR photography is permitted.

j) All images submitted must be the work of the individual submitting them and must not have been published elsewhere or have won a prize in any other photographic competition. It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that any images they submit have been taken with the permission of the subject and do not infringe the copyright of any third party or any laws. Entrants must warrant that the photograph they are submitting is their own work and that they own the copyright for it

k) By entering into this contest, the contestant will agree to receive e-newsletters from The Sunway Group on latest events and promotions.

l) The organizing committee reserves the right to amend, delete or add to the above Terms and Conditions at any time without prior notice.

m) In the events of discrepancy, the English version of the Rules and Regulations will prevail.


2. Assessment

a) The judging of this competition will be based on content, composition, quality, technique and creativity in the photography in relation to the theme “Sunway Memories”.

b) The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entertained.

c) Winners will be notified by post/telephone or via email.

d) All prizes must be redeemed within 21 days of notification. Prizes not collected within given time and date will be forfeited.

3. Ownership

a) Copyright of all images submitted for this competition shall remain with the respective entrants.

b) However, in consideration of their providing the Competition, each entrant grants a worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual license to Sunway Group to feature any or all of the submitted images in any of their publications, their websites and/or in any promotional material connected to this competition within that time period.

c) The owners of the winning photographs shall relinquish all copyright of their pictures to the Sunway Group.

d) All photographs for the competition will not be returned and shall remain the property of The Sunway Group.

e) The Sunway Group shall be allowed to keep, exhibit and make copies of all photographs without prior consent or payment to participant for non commercial usage.

f) In the event that a non-winning photograph is used for commercial purpose in the likes of billboards, posters, brochures, leaflets and advertisement, the owner of the photograph shall be paid a nominal sum of RM300 for the rights of use in whatever form or manner.

g) Contestants will be responsible for any talent fees incurred. The Sunway Group will not be liable for any claims from talents as a result of this competition.

4. Risk & Liability

The Sunway Group will not be held liable in the event of loss, personal injury, or death as a result of participation in this competition.

The closing date of this competition is 30th November 2008

ASIAN Geographic is looking for special photographs from talented amateur and professional photographers who have captured a striking image of Asia’s land, people, architecture or wildlife. One winner and runner-up will be selected from each category. An overall Grand Prize will be awarded to the best overall picture as judged by our panel of editors. Winning entries will also be published in the December Photo Annual Edition of ASIAN Geographic.

ASIAN Geographic is looking for fresh photography that captures the many facets of Asia: past winners of any other photography contest will not be considered for this contest, and all submissions must be unpublished photographs.

54 prizes awarded by a panel of international photographers

All works will be judged by professional photographers working internationally and a combined total of 54 prizes will be awarded. The Emerging Talent award will recognize 4 winners and 16 runners-up from both categories to commend those aged under 30 for work that possess outstanding expressive power and conveys the energy of youth. To properly commemorate this event, a special prize will be awarded to the outstanding work that places second after the Grand Prize winner.

HOW TO APPLY:

Entries submitted in print by conventional mail

Entries accepted in print are color or black-and-white photographs taken with 35mm film cameras, Advanced Photo System (APS) film cameras and digital still cameras, not including medium or large format digital cameras. Images that have been digitally edited with software are also accepted. Each entrant can submit up to 2 entries for each category (a total of 4 prints), with print dimensions of 19 x 24cm (8 x 10 inches) to 28 x 36cm (11 x 14 inches).

Please download and print out an official Entry Form, available from July 10th, from the Nikon Photo Contest International 2008-2009 Web site (http://www.nikon-npci.com), make a photocopy of the official form or contact your nearest Nikon dealer for details on how to obtain an official Entry Form. The official Entry Form is available in 10 languages (Japanese / English / German / French / Spanish / Italian / Portuguese / Korean / Simplified Chinese / Traditional Chinese) and the rules and process of entry via conventional mail are explained fully within.
Entries submitted as JPEG images via the Internet

Accepted JPEG images are color or black-and-white graphic files taken with digital still cameras (not including medium or large format digital cameras) and scanned data of photographs taken with 35mm film cameras or Advanced Photo System (APS) film cameras. Images that have been digitally edited with software are also accepted. Each entrant can submit two JPEG images for each category (a total of 4 images), with a maximum size for each JPEG image of 10MB. JPEG images exceeding this size must be compressed to a maximum of 10MB prior to submission.

Full details regarding entry via the Internet can be found on the online entry form, on the Nikon Photo Contest International 2008-2009 Web site (http://www.nikon-npci.com/). Please follow the rules and guidelines stated therein to submit your JPEG images.
Judging and announcement of winners

Photographers working internationally will be appointed by Nikon Corporation as judges to undertake selection of the winning photographs. The winners will be announced on the Nikon Photo Contest International Web site (http://www.nikon-npci.com/) and in an official press release by the end of July 2009.

Note: Nikon will notify the winners and select all prizes. Winners will not be able to select their prizes. Prizes are subject to change without notification and cash alternatives are not available.

*1 An exhibition of the work of the Grand Prize winner, Emerging Talent Award winners and runners-up will be held on the Nikon Photo Contest International Web site. Winners will have the chance to show photographs other than their winning photographs for which they possess the copyrights. Winners will therefore be invited to submit photographs in addition to their winning works. The winner agrees to allow the organizer to use the winner’s works and any other works sent by the winner to the organizer at no charge to the organizer. All costs, fees and charges will be the sole responsibility of the winner. Winners may be required to provide Nikon with relevant tax information and to prepare relevant tax documentation prior to receiving the prize.
